Waves crashing on Cape Todo

Cape Todo

Cape Todo is Japan’s easternmost point (on the mainland), and is located in the city of Miyako, Iwate. The cape is known for its spectacular views of the horizon. It is a great spot to see the sunset and sunrise. The lighthouse on the cape was originally built in 1920, but burnt down in World War II. The one we see today was built in 1950, and is currently unstaffed. At nearby Miyako Station and other spots, you can purchase a certificate celebrating your visit to the easternmost point in Japan.
