Nikaho Highlands
Nikaho Highlands locates in southwestern Akita prefecture. The area has an elevation of around 500 meters, and is surrounded by tall mountains. The highlands are beautiful all year round, with lush greenery in the spring and summer, fall colors in the autumn and the snow in the winter. Throughout the year, you can find cows roaming on the fields as well. In the city of Nikaho, there is also the Nakajimadai Recreational Forest. The forest is packed with beech trees that were planted in the Edo Period (1603 – 1867).
