Chiba Family Residence
The Chiba Family Residence in the city of Tono, Iwate is a traditional magari-ya house, and is designatd as one of Japan’s Top 10 Traditional Houses. Magari-ya houses are houses that are made in an L shape. This house in particular was made about 200 years ago, and designated as a national important cultural property in 2007. Since 2016, it has been under construction, and will not be open again until 2026. Other sites in Tono include the Gohyaku Rakan collection of Buddha statues and the Yamaguchi Windmill.
