The Mogami Gorge locates in northern Yamagata prefecture on the Mogami River. The gorge is about 16 kilometers long, and has a fast current. The Mogami River is famous for being mentioned in a poem by the famous poet Matsuo Basho. In the spring, cherry blossoms decorate the gorge. The gorge provides a refreshing shade during the summertime. The view of the fall foliage at Mogami Gorge is breathtaking. One way to enjoy Mogami Gorge is to go on a boat tour. Historically, boating down the Mogami River was a popular transportation choice. Today, you can boat down the river to enjoy the views of Mogami Gorge. In the winter, the boats are decked with kotatsu tables that will keep you warm during the tour.
