Former Mikasa Hotel
In Karuizawa-machi of eastern Nagano prefecture, the "Former Mikasa Hotel" stands in a region known as former Karuizawa, which extends north from Karuizawa station. It is a purely western style wooden hotel built in the late Meiji era, and then closed in 1970. As for today, it is designated as a National Important Cultural Property serving as a popular tourist attraction representing Karuizawa. The hotel still inherits the good old days of the Meiji / Taisho era, and is known as a spot where numerous celebrities has visited in the past. Not only can you enjoy the elegant appearance of the hotel from the outside, but you can also tour through the inside as well. After seeing the Former Mikasa Hotel, you should also stroll through the former Karu Ginza street to visit the "Yagasaki Chapel", which is a famous spot for resort weddings. A stay at the "Hotel Otowa no Mori" built on the motif of the Former Mikasa Hotel is recommended as well.
