Kurita Museum
The Kurita Museum, in Ashikaga, Tochigi, is dedicated to works of pottery. Over 10,000 works of traditional pottery are displayed here. Many works of Imari-yaki ware are exhibited at the Kurita Museum. Imari-yaki is one of the first forms of porcelain ware in Japan, and comes from the Kyushu region. There are also many works of Nabeshima-yaki shown at the Kurita Museum. They are also from the Kyushu region, and were known to be of very high grade. The founder of the museum, Kurita Hideo, was captivated by the beauty of Imari-yaki and Nabeshima-yaki, and created this museum to collect and display them. In the museum grounds, there is a beautiful Japanese garden. The buildings of the museum are of beautiful architecture. At the museum shop, there are many different types of pottery to choose from.
