The National Art Center, Tokyo
The National Art Center, Tokyo
The National Art Center distinguishes itself by not having a permanent exhibit -- instead, they have a constantly rotating system of special exhibitions. Some of the past exhibits include those of famous Japanese artists and illustrators such as Kusama Yayoi, known for her polka dot paintings, and Shinkai Makoto, director of the 2016 hit film, “Your Name”. The 14,000 square meter museum is one of the most spacious in Japan, and was built by architect Kurokawa Kisho. Inside, you can also find three cafes and a restaurant that serves special menus that correspond with the exhibitions. At the museum shop, you can find items related to the exhibited artworks and those that are not. Some special items include food and clothes.
