Mamedamachi town is located in the northern area of Hita city, Oita prefecture. This town was known as the imperial lands of Tokugawa Shogunate during the Edo Period. Today, the historic buildings and layout of the town remain the same. These buildings have been designated as an Important Preservation District of Historic Buildings. You can enjoy many retro shops, such as drug stores from the Edo period and local wood shops. If you get tired after a long walk, come enjoy the famous citron pepper soft served ice cream at the retro cafes. Every May, the Hita River Sightseeing Festival takes place. Along with the parades and carnivals, the vibrant fireworks light up the calm mountains.
