Shokasonjuku Academy
Shokasonjuku Academy
"Shokasonjuku Academy" is located in Hagi, a city in northern Yamaguchi prefecture. Established in Matsumoto Village by an educationist, Shoin Yoshida, this private school taught disciples regardless of their social status and class, producing numerous talents including "Genzui Kusaka", "Shinsaku Takasugi", "Hirobumi Ito", "Aritomo Yamagata", "Akiyoshi Yamada", and "Yajiro Shinagawa". This Japanese academy is a well retained traditional one-story tile-roof wooden building, and the atmosphere allows you to vividly imagine the everyday lives of the unnamed talents. The castle town itself also preserves it's former presence from 400 years ago. An old map from the Edo period still serves as a perfect guide. Enjoy your time strolling through the historical sites and old residences, where the Meiji Restoration Patriots lived.
