Sabani Sailing Race

40 km west from Naha city, the Zamami island stands proud.
The "Sabani Sailing Race", a 40km race from the Kozamami Beach to Naha port takes place here. Teams compete on a traditional Okinawan wooden fishing boat, called "Sabani", using solely the power of wind and physical strength. The race aims to protect and inherit the Sabani tradition, under the co-sponsorship of local governments.
A team of local middle school students also participates to pass on the Sabani tradition to the next generation.
The scenery of various colorful boats pushing powerfully through the beautiful cobalt blue ocean is breathtaking. Enjoy this one and only experience on the Zamami Island.
