Nikkawa Hotaru no Sato
Nikkawa Hotaru no Sato
The "Nikkawa Hotaru no Sato" event is held annually in early July in Sendai, central Miyagi Prefecture. The event is held to advocate for the preservation of the area's rich nature and fireflies. This event is held around the Nikkawa River, a place rare for its population of wild fireflies. During the "yoimatsuri", or night festival held in the year's firefly-viewing period, events like mochi pounding and a raffle are held. Food stalls are also set up for you to fill your belly before watching the fireflies. Coordinators from the "Nikkawa Lifestyle Center" will help guide you to the firefly viewing spots. The floating light of the fireflies in the darkness is a magical sight, sure to be a summer memory you'll never forget. It's also a great opportunity to nurture an awareness for environmental conservation. The surroundings are a residential area, so make sure to follow the rules when parking your vehicle and viewing fireflies.
