Masubuchi River
Masubuchi River
Masubuchigawa is located in Tome City in the northern part of Miyagi Prefecture. Genji fireflies inhabit for 1.5 km from Iwabuchi Bridge to Karumai district and are designated as a national natural monument. Tome City is a place where the water is so clear that it is called the "water village". Agriculture has developed based on the blessed water resources. The clear stream, Masubuchi River, is one of the beautiful rivers that harmonizes with the satoyama scenery. There were times when pesticides flowed into the tributary of the Kitakami River, the largest river in the Tohoku region, and fireflies disappeared. However, many fireflies fluttered back due to environmental protection of local residents, and when it came to the best time, many fireflies were illusions Glows light. When rainfall is heavy, a channel is created to prevent habitats from being damaged by floods. The Masubuchi River offers cool views during the day, but at night you can see stunning Genji fireflies. It is known as a famous place for fireflies, and its sight is likened to "Genji Firefly Battle" or "Firefly Dance". A river that will delight the day and night in the original landscape of Japan.
