Toyo Hyakkaten (Toyo Department Store)
Toyo Hyakkaten (Toyo Department Store)
"Toyo Hyakkaten" is located in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo. With "Hyakkaten" meaning "department store", it is by far from what you may anticipate. Imagine cramming 22 shops into a garage, with a bizarre painting of a train scribbled on the entrance wall. Toyo Hyakkaten is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city of Japanese subculture, Shimokitazawa. The unorganized appearance and interior seems as if its reflecting the miscellaneous and messy atmosphere of the city. As of August 2019, it currently displays 22 stores, providing you a wide range of second hand clothing, handmade general goodies and vintage items at an affordable price. If you are newbie here, we strongly recommend that you walk through all shops until you meet your perfect match. Also, note that the opening/closing hours and holidays vary for each shop.
