Nawate Street
Nawate Street
"Nawate Street" is located in Ote of Matsumoto city, Nagano Pref. It is a retrospective shopping avenue spread along Metoba river. In this merry location, street stalls have stood in line since the Meiji era, and black markets were held during the war. Today, it has improved to become a pedestrian's paradise, crowded with local people and tourists every day. This spot is perfect to choose souvenirs, with various shops standing side by side, including classic toy shops and fashionable general stores. Among these various shops, you always find out the motives of "Kaeru"(frog). "Kajika" frog, which had lived in Metoba river in large numbers, is the symbol of this shopping street. Brave frog, humorous one, pompous stone statue and some in shop signboard... How about a walk around there, looking for your favorite one? You cannot miss this spot in your Matsumoto trip, which is not so far from Matsumoto Station and "Matsumoto" castle.
