Kawayu Onsen Kameya Ryokan
Kawayu Onsen Kameya Ryokan
The "Kawayu Onsen - Kameya Ryokan" is located in Tanabe City, southern Wakayama Prefecture. This Ryokan (Japanese style hotel) is located next to Otogawa River, known to be the origin of Kawayu Onsen's hot springs. This 150-year old ryokan was named a "Tangible Cultural Property of Japan" in 2008. The relaxed, Japanese style interior conveys the long history of the ryokan. All of the rooms face out onto the Otogawa River, allowing customers to relax in their rooms accompanied by the ambient sounds of the river flow. Excluding the "Sennin Buro (Thousand-person bath)" period from December to February, an open-air hot spring bath reserved for ryokan guests is set up in the Otogawa River. The ryokan serves healthy medicinal dishes, that do not use Chinese medicinal ingredients, but rather local Kumano ingredients. The hot springs and food here will heal your body, giving you a relaxing experience from the inside out. We also recommend taking a walk on the Kumano Kodo Trail during your stay. A walk through the historic pilgrimage trail is a meditative and refreshing experience of nature.
