Chirin-gashima

Chirin-gashima is an uninhabited island at the mouth of Kinko Bay, in Ibusuki city, Kagoshima. The island’s circumference is about 3 kilometers. According to legend, the sound of the island’s pine trees swaying in the wind helped local fishermen navigate the nearby waters, and some say that this is where the island got its name, loosely translates as “the island of wise trees.” Many visitors are drawn here by the mysterious shoal that appears only during low tide from March to October. The 800 meter sand bar lets visitors walk directly to the island from the shore. The shoal is named Chiri-rin Road, and as it symbolizes a bridge or a link, it is often called "the matchmaking road," while the island is known as "the love island." The shoal disappears when the tide comes in, so be sure to set aside plenty of time to cross back.
