The Time Bell Tower is in Kawagoe City, central Saitama Prefecture. It is a famous symbol of Kawagoe City and a popular touring spot.
The Time Bell is a bell striking hall which rings the time for people living in Kawagoe. It is said that it was built about 400 years ago, and has been rebuilt every time it has burned down and operates even today. The Time Bell is rung 4 times each day at 6:00,12:00, 15:00 and 18:00. The sound of the bells echoing in the city of Koedo Kawagoe makes you feel the town's history.
Kashiya (sweet shop) Street is an area where about 20 candy stores are concentrated. The street developed its concentration of confectioners in the early Meiji period, and has continued to make sweets through the ages, in the stead of Tokyo that was greatly damaged by the Great Kanto Earthquake. The items for sale are all candies and cheap sweets that give a nostalgic feeling.
Combined with the view of the town scape, it might make you feel a little bit sentimental. Every October, the Kawagoe Festival is held. here. Floats with vivid decorations parade through the city and many people visit for a look.
