Yadori-hara-nouson park

Yadori-hara-nouson-kouen is a small park on the southern tip of the O-sumi Peninsula in Kagoshima. The Yadori-hara “farm village” park boasts sweeping views of the Kinko Bay. The no-frills park has pubic toilets and a simple resting area, and nothing else. It is a nice place to stop during a leisurely drive, to stretch your legs and enjoy the scenery. The west side of the park overlooks the idyllic landscape of Kinko-cho town with Kinko Bay in the distance.

The neighborhood villages practice a special winter tradition called “daiko yagura,” which literally means radish towers.
These are countless rows of freshly harvested daikon radish stacked up for drying on tall bamboo frames. Daikon yagura towers are unique to Kyushu, which is a major producer of daikon radishes and famous for its takuan daikon pickles. In late December, Yadori-hara-nouson park offers great night views of the yagura towers decked in red and green lights. (The light-up schedule changes every year. Check the Kinko-cho town website for more details.)
