The Nagoya Castle was built in the early 1500s, and flourished during the Edo period (1603 – 1867) as the one of the most important castles for the Tokugawa family. Currently, the castle serves as a historical theme park, so visitors can learn about the history of the castle in a fun, interactive way. At the foot of the castle is Kinshachi Yokocho restaurant street, where you can taste Nagoya’s specialties like hitsumabushi (grilled eel) and miso-katsu fried pork.
