Kurashiki Bikan Historical Area
The Kurashiki Bikan Historical Area can be found in the city of Kurashiki in Okayama prefecture. The area was a merchant’s quarter in the Edo Period (1603 – 1867), and was well known amongst merchants for its picturesqueness. The streets with the tiled roof buildings are built along the Kurashiki River. Even today, the area retains a traditional, Edo-style look and is popular with visitors from all over Japan. Though the streets are look very traditional, some of the shops on them are quite modern. On the streets, you can find cafes, galleries, and more.
