Kurashiki Archaeological Museum
The Kurashiki Archaeological Museum, in Okayama prefecture, has a collection of items from the Kibi area (modern day Okayama and some parts of Hiroshima) dating as far back to tens of thousands of years ago. The museum opened in 1950. The building is a 200-year-old rice granary that had been restored to be used as a museum. During the Edo Period (1603 – 1867), this building stored merchants’ rice and other goods. Other than items from ancient Japan, this museum is also home to items from ancient Peru and the Andean Civilation, ancient Iran, ancient China and more.
