The Italian Embassy Villa Memorial Park lies at the banks of Lake Chuzenji, located in western Tochigi. During the mid-Meiji period (1868 - 1912) to the early Showa period (1926 - 1989), the Lake Chuzenji area was a popular villa site for foreign diplomats. The two Italian Embassy Villa buildings were built in 1928, and parts of it are open to the public today. Inside the second building, there is an exhibit explaining the history of Lake Chuzenji as a popular villa site.
