Ryuzu Falls during the fall

Ryuzu Falls

Ryuzu Falls, locating in eastern Tochigi, is one of the Okunikko Three Major Falls. The falls were created by an eruption from Mount Nantai, and measures 10 meters wide and 210 meters high. Near the fall basin, a huge rock splits the waterfall into two. The rock resembles the head of a dragon, and that became the origin for the name “Ryuzu 竜頭”, as 竜 means dragon and 頭 means head. Between late September and mid October, colored leaves decorate the Ryuzu Falls area. From the observatory, you can see Ryuzu Falls and its stunning surrounding scenery.
