Kaizu-osaki Peninsula

Kaizu-osaki Peninsula on the northern tip of Shiga Prefecture's Lake Biwa, is one of the scenic landmarks collectively known as the “eight views of Lake Biwa". The shore rock reef area that juts out into Lake Biwa is part of Biwa-ko (Lake Biwa) National Park.

The rugged, powerful landscape formed by jagged rocks is one that captivates visitors. The walking path next to the lake is named “Omi-ko no Umi-nobe no Michi" -- the path along Omi Lake (Omi is the traditional name of Shiga) . It is a nice place to wander while soaking up Lake Biwa's nature.

In spring, 4 km of the path are covered with approximately 600 cherry blossom trees. The cherry blossoms along this stretch are relatively late bloomers compared to other cherry flowers in the Kinki region (the area surrounding Osaka), making Kaizu-osaki Peninsula a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing.
