The Blue Pond locates in the town of Biei in Hokkaido. It is a ethereal cobalt blue pond with larch trees surrounding it. The blue color is a result of aluminum particles reflecting sunlight in the water. The aluminum particles come from Shirogane Onsen hot springs, which locates upstream. The best time to see the blue pond at its bluest is between mid May and mid June. The waters are especially still and blue in the morning hours. In the winter months, the surrounding larch trees are lit up. There is also a light up event held at Shirahige Falls, locating right by the Blue Pond.
