Seikei Park in the fall

Seikei Park

Seikei Park locates in Taku-shi, a city in the western part of Saga prefecture. Koreyoshi Takatori, a businessman during the Meiji period (1868 – 1912), founded this park at his own expense in the 1920s and donated it to the then Taku village. It was named after Takatori’s other name, “Seikei”. You can enjoy the beautiful seasonal sceneries in this extensive ground of thirty thousand square meters. In the spring, azaleas and more than 400 bushes of cherry blossoms bloom. During the fall, leaves of about 180 trees turn red and yellow at their peak. Two must see sights are the library and Kanoutei. The library has a stunning brick wall exterior, and Kanoutei is a national registered property with a Japanese style design. There are also a few museums: a local museum, a museum of history and folklore and a pioneer museum that displays resources such as the ones from the latter half of the Neolithic era, and a museum about coal mines and local people. These museums enable you to learn about Taku’s history from various points of views.
