Sayama Hills stretches across Tokyo and Saitama prefectures, and is 11 kilometers wide and 4 kilometers long. The hills are rich in nature, and are filled with trees and wetlands. The hills are also famous as one of the sites that inspired the Studio Ghibli film, “My Neighbor Totoro”. About 1,000 species of animals and plants can be found in these woods. There are also about 210 different species of birds throughout Sayama Hills. Throughout the hills, there are around 400 ruins and fields that are reminiscent of traditional Japan. One of the traditional houses that can be found in Sayama Hills is Kurosuke’s House. The house has a history of over 100 years, and is home to a big Totoro plush doll. Here, you can purchase goods that are inspired by “My Neighbor Totoro”.
