Suzuzen
Suzuzen is a lacquer ware shop in Fukushima prefecture’s Aizu-Wakamatsu city. They specialize in aizu-nuri lacquer ware, which began in about 1590 and is characterized by the shiny black lacquer glazed onto wooden tableware and other items. The store opened in 1832, and their aizu-nuri lacquer ware is carefully handcrafted in a way that is unique to Suzuzen. The aizu-nuri lacquer ware sold at Suzuzen range from traditional items like bowls and chopsticks to more modern items like handheld mirrors. You can also experience painting your own aizu-nuri lacquer ware. It is a fun experience and creates a unique souvenir.
