Sapporo Snow Festival Museum
Sapporo Snow Festival Museum
The Sapporo Snow Festival Museum locates on Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill, located in the southeastern area of Sapporo. At the museum, you can learn about the history of the Sapporo Snow Festival, which began in 1950 as a small winter festival. The architecture of the 2-story building has a retro feel to it. On the first floor, photos and videos from previous years are exhibited, and on the second floor, posters and models of sculptures from previous years are displayed. There are many other sights to see on Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill. One is the famous sculpture of Professor William S. Clark, who was known for helping Hokkaido grow economically and scientifically in the late 1800s. For a meal, you can head to the Hitsujigaoka Rest House for some jingisukan, a grilled lamb/mutton dish that is particularly popular in Hokkaido.
