Sefa-utaki

Sefa-utaki
Sefa-utaki locates in Okinawa’s city of Nanjo. It is considered the most sacred site of the Ryukyu Kingdom, the kingdom that ruled Okinawa’s islands before it became a part of Japan. According to legend, Sefa-utaki is where the history of the Ryukyu Kingdom began. In 2000, it was designated as an UNESCO World Heritage Site as a part of the Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu. Inside the sacred site, there are six sanctuaries, which are all open to the public. Sefa-utaki is said to be created by Amamikiyo, the creator of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Many visit the site annually, since it is the destination of the important Ryukyuan pilgrimage, “Agariumai”. Nearby, you can find other tourist spots like Cape Chinen Park and Azama Sun Sun Beach. The entire area is a beautiful location surrounded by the ocean.
