Furepe Waterfall

Groundwater falling from Furepe Waterfall

Furepe Waterfall

Furepe Waterfall locates on the Shiretoko Peninsula in northeastern Hokkaido. It is one of the eight scenic spots of Shiretoko. The fall’s water is fresh groundwater, and does not come from a river. The freshwater comes from the accumulated snow and rainwater from the Shiretoko Mountain Range. The water is quite stagnant and muted, and the way it falls is tear-like. You can see the falls from the surrounding cliff area or from the sea on the Shiretoko Sightseeing Ships. Located nearby is the Shiretoko National Park Nature Center. There, you can find useful information on sightseeing and about the Shiretoko Peninsula. You can also rent out items used for outdoor activities. At the food court inside, local specialty dishes are served.
