Himawari no Sato
Himawari no Sato sunflower field locates in the town of Hokuryu in northwestern Hokkaido. The sunflower field project began in 1979 when a town agricultural cooperative member was moved after seeing a sunflower field in Yugoslavia. Today, the sunflower field measures about 231,000㎡ with over 1.5 million sunflowers. The flowers blossom around mid July to mid August. During that period, the town hosts the Himawari (sunflower) Festival. Events such as a sunflower maze, sightseeing carts and more are held during the festival. Some special events held during the festival period include fireworks display, melon/watermelon festival and more.
