Furano Gojo-Ohashi Bridge
Furano Gojo-Ohashi Bridge
Furano Gojo-Ohashi is situated in the center of Hokkaido, in Furano City. The bridge hangs over the Sorachi River and is symbolized by its steel arch.
Furano Gojo-Ohashi has served as a key point of traffic since Hokkaido's development began in the late 19th century. The bridge has repeatedly been washed away during floods, until construction was completed in April 1965. Work to expand the bridge was carried out and the current bridge was finished in 1993.
Countless TV dramas have been filmed at Furano Gojo-Ohashi, bringing many fans to the location. A monument of the Furano City mascot “Hesomaru-kun” stands on both ends of the bridge. Due to a play on Japanese words, it is believed that touching the area around its bellybutton (heso in Japanese) increases your secret savings (hesokuri in Japanese).
Nearby is a multi-complex commercial site named Furano Marche, which houses restaurants and shops and is an ideal spot to visit together with Furano Gojo-Ohashi.
