Hoshoin Temple
Hoshoin Temple
Hoshoin Temple, on Kagawa Prefecture’s Shodoshima Island, is one of the temples of the Shodoshima 88 Temple Pilgrimage.
At the temple, there is a giant hinoki tree that is over 1,600 years old. It is said to be planted by an emperor, and is one of the largest hinoki trees to exist in Japan. The tree is famous for having many patterns throughout it that resemble human or animal faces. It is also designated as a national natural monument. There are also experience sessions at the temple, such as a DIY Buddhist prayer bracelet session and a incense lesson.
