Ride on Zao Ropeway located by Zao Onsen hot springs in southeastern Yamagata! The ropeway connects the foot of Mount Zao (Zao Sanroku Station) to the mountain’s mid-area (Juhyo-Kogen Station) and finally up to the top of the mountain (Jizo Sancho Station). Around Juhyo-Kogen Station, there are many nature spots, such as Iroha-numa Pond and Kansho-daira pine forest. From Jizo Sancho Station, the hiking routes for Mount Zao can be accessed. In the winter, you can see the snow monsters from the ropeway. Snow monsters are trees covered in snow, and an innumerable amount of themcan be found on Mount Zao. After sunset , the snow monsters are lit-up for an extra special view.
