Mount Zao

Mount Zao, located on the prefectural border between Miyagi and Yamanashi, is a mountain on the Ou Mountain Range. The highest peak on the mountain is Kumano Peak, measuring at 1,841 meters high.
Throughout the mountain, you can find forests, lakes, valleys and more. In the winter, you can see the “snow monster” phenomenon, where snow completely covers a tree. In the autumn, the fall foliage on the mountain is an amazing sight.
In the high elevation zone, there is a walking path set up for hikers to comfortably walk on. There is also an observatory where you can get a panoramic view of the surrounding scenery.
By the foot of Mount Zao, there are some hot springs facilities. After a long day of activities, you can relax in the onsen baths.
