Wajima Museum of Urushi Art is located in Wajima city, the northern part of Ishikawa Prefecture. It is a lacquer art museum that displays one of the Japanese traditional craftworks, wajima-nuri, lacquer ware. It opened to spread lacquer culture in 1991. There are 4 showrooms in total. In addition to the permanent exhibition which shows the history and culture of wajima-nuri in an easy way, rotating exhibition shows works of contemporary lacquer artists. You can experience making gold-inlaid spoon, colored chopsticks, and original gold lacquer straps (advance reservation required). Lacquer trees and trees like zelkova and magnolia obovate, from which lacquer wares are made, are planted outside of the museum at “Urushinosatohiroba”.
