Hagi Meirin Gakusha
Hagi Meirin Gakusha
"Hagi Meirin Gakusha" is a newfound tourist attraction located in Hagi city of Yamaguchi prefecture. It reopened recently after renovating the "Meirin Elementary School", the largest wooden school building in Japan built on the site of a former clan school where the heroes of the Meiji Restoration studied back then, "Meirinkan". The building is divided into 3 areas, the main building, the second building, and the former buildings of Meirinkan. In the main building, facilities, such as a tourist information center, an eating place, and souvenir stores are available. The second building is a paid exhibition area presenting historical materials from the Meiji Restoration, along with a famous world heritage property known as "Goshisan", and more. Various cultural remains are open to see at the former Meirinkan building, such as the "Yuubikan" Dojo and the "Suiren Ike" pond. With mixed features of the modern and the past, it is a must see tourist spot in Hagi.
