Io World Kagoshima Aquarium
Io World Kagoshima Aquarium
Io World Kagoshima Aquarium is located in Kagoshima City, Kagoshima Prefecture. It is the largest aquarium in Kyushu, and is most well known for its whale sharks and dolphin shows. Io, in Kagoshima’s dialect means fish. A massive 500 species of mostly fish, are kept in this aquarium. The great "Kuroshio Daisuisou" tank housing the larger fish such as whale sharks, tuna, and stingrays are astounding. This aquarium has a unique practice of capturing smaller whale sharks in Kagoshima’s seas, and releasing them before they reach the length of 5.5 meters. Currently, the 9th generation whale shark swims freely in the tank! The dolphins aren’t just for shows; they can also be seen enjoying themselves in the channel connecting the aquarium to the Kinko Bay. Their fun-loving demeanor puts a smile on visitors' faces.
