The building of the Dazaifu Tenjikan

Dazaifu Tenjikan

The "Dazai-fu Tenjikan" is a pavilion located in Dazaifu city of western Fukuoka. It is a museum standing on the eastern side of the "Dazai-fu Government District", which formerly served as a government center specializing in foreign diplomacy and the management of the Kyushu area, during the Nara - Heian era. Artifacts of this ancient city are exhibited here, with the "Cobblestone Drain" being famous for possibly being the remains of Otomono Tabito, a director of the Dazaifu. A diorama of the "Plum blossom Feast" is also a popular exhibit. A verse of a poem written during this famous feast was adopted to be the name of the new imperial era, "Reiwa". Other than this, Mizuki-ato which served as northern Kyushu's defense outpost can be seen in Mizuki-kan located nearby. Many historic sites related to the Dazaifu surround this area as well, making it a great place to learn its history from various perspectives.
