Before the opening of the Seikan Tunnel, ferries were the main mode of transport between Hokkaido and Honshu (mainland Japan). The Hakkodamaru ferry operated for 23 years and 7 months, which was the longest out of all ferries. Today, the yellow ferry serves as a memorial to commemorate the ship’s long run. Inside the four-storey ship, you can tour the engine room, learn about the ferry’s encounters and more.
