Takatokaku (Takato Pavilion)
Takatokaku (Takato Pavilion)
Takatokaku (Takato Pavilion), located inside Takato Castle Park, was established in 1936 as an assembly hall for town and as a resting space for visitors. It was designed by architect and Nagano native Ito Bunjiro, who took part in the construction of buildings such as the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. The pavilion incorporates modern designs into the original, traditional castle keep structure. In 2002, Takatokaku was designated as a national tangible cultural property, as one of the few large-scale buildings built in the early Showa period (1926 – 1989). Events are held throughout the year at Takato Castle Park. In particular, the park is known for its cherry blossoms during the spring season, which is nicknamed as “the country’s very first cherry blossoms”.
