Wajima Kiriko Art Museum
Wajima Kiriko Art Museum
The Wajima Kiriko Art Museum locates in northern Ishikawa. Here, you can learn about the “kiriko”, a huge lantern used in the Wajima Festival (also called the Noto Kiriko Festival). The festival has a history of over 1,000 years, and is celebrated throughout the Noto region of Ishikawa prefecture. On the third floor of the museum is an observation lobby, where you can see the ocean. In the museum is a huge kiriko that stands from the ground and reaches the third floor. You can see the kiriko up close from the second floor. At the screen theater, you can experience the Wajima Festival through a video. Occasionally, a special taiko drum performance is held at the square stage. The drummers wear demon masks as they perform.
