Abashiri Drift Ice Sightseeing & Icebreaker Ship Aurora
The Abashiri Drift Ice Sightseeing & Icebreaker Ship Aurora runs on the Sea of Okhotsk, which locates on the eastern coast of Hokkaido. On the ship, you can see glaciers that drift down from the Amur River. This ship runs through the glaciers, and it is a rare and fun opportunity to go on such ship. The ship is double-decked, with a souvenir shop, cafe and an observation deck on the second floor. From the deck is an amazing view of the sea and the glaciers. Make sure to dress warm, as the deck can get very cold. If you’re lucky, you might be able to see some wild animals like seals and eagles from the deck. At the Port of Abashiri, you will see Boshi Rock, a giant rock that is considered holy amongst the Ainu. The Ainu are the indigenous people of the Hokkaido region.
