Ikisu Shrine

Located in Kamisu city of southern Ibaraki prefecture, "Ikisu Shrine" has a history of more than 2,000 years. Enshrining the god of purification and godspeed, "Kunado no Kami", as the chief god, it has an ancient and honorable origin as one of the "Togoku Sanjya" listed along with the Kashima Jingu in Ibaraki and Katori shrine in Chiba. In the past, people living in the Kanto area and above used to stop by at these three shrines for further purification, on their way back from the Ise Jingu. Many historical buildings exist on the precincts of the shrine, with the well built on both sides of the Torii gate called "Oshioi" being especially famous as one of Japan's top three sacred fountains. The bottle at the bottom of the well can only be seen if the water is clear enough, and it is said to bring you luck when its visible. Its also a popular power spot, with a 1,000+ years old sacred tree standing on the left side of the shrine.
