Taushubetsu Bridge

Taushubetsu Bridge can be found in the town of Kamishihoro in central Hokkaido. It is an arched concrete bridge, and is nicknamed the “phantom bridge” as it can disappear when the water levels are high. The extreme changes in water levels are due to the nearby dam. Between the 1920s and the 1980s, the bridge served as a railroad for the Shihoro Line train. The bridge is no longer in use and now is a tourist spot. Only cars with special permission are allowed to cross the bridge. If you want to cross the bridge by car, there are some tours with the permitted cars. Otherwise, you can head to the nearby observatory where you can get a nice view of the bridge.
