Lake Rausu surrounded by greenery

Lake Rausu locates in the town of Rausu on the Shiretoko Peninsula in northeastern Hokkaido. It is the largest lake on the peninsula, and can be reached via the Lake Rausu Trail starting near Cape Shiretoko. On the trail, there are five swamps. The views of the second and third swamps are absolutely amazing. Around the lake, there are many seasonal plants. In early summer, the hare’s-tail cottongrass decorates the wetlands, and in autumn the fields change colors. In the area, there are several camping grounds. The Rausu Onsen Camping Site, in particular, can be used for a relatively low price. Their hot spring facility, Kuma-no-yu, can be used for free, too.
