Okushiri Island locates on Hokkaido’s southeastern coast. It is the prefecture’s fifth largest island, measuring 142.97㎢. The waters surrounding the island are known for its transparency. Often called “Okushiri Blue”, the transparency measures up to 25 meters deep. The island is also famous for its fresh seafood. In the summer, you can try local seafood dishes such as Kitamurasaki Uni (sea urchin) and mackerel. Okushiri Island’s tourism season officially kicks off in May. Three major festivals – Sai no Kawara Festival, Murotsujima Festival and Nabetsuru Festival are held during tourism season.
