Mount Usu
Mount Usu is located on the southern coast of Hokkaido, and is an active volcano. It is a part of the Shikotsu-Toya National Park. Its most recent eruption was in 2000, and has erupted four times in the 1900s. This is one of the rare mountains in the world that cause major changes in geography. For a view of the mountain and its surroundings, you can hop on the Mount Usu Ropeway. The ropeway, which for most of the year, takes you to the top of Mount Usu. The mountain is located near the hot springs town, Toyako. After a day of exploring Mount Usu’s nature, you can head to Toyako for a hot, relaxing bath.
