Nishizawa Gorge
The Nishizawa Gorge -- one of Japan’s most beautiful gorges – is nestled in the east of Yamanashi Prefecture. The scenic canyon is scattered with waterfalls, including the Nanatsugama Godan Falls. The five-tiered waterfall is on the list of top 100 waterfalls in Japan. The crystal clear and deep blue streams running through the gorge are ranked among Japan’s 100 best natural water sources. The hiking trail is open to visitors around the year, and offers sweeping views of the gorge’s seasonal wonders. Crowds flock here in May to enjoy the colorful blooms of Rhododendrons, as well as in the autumn to view the colorful foliage. Nishizawa gorge boasts high levels of negative ions – which helps boost our health and wellness – and many visitors come to practice “forest therapy.” This area is officially recognized as a location that promotes relaxation. One of the best-kept secrets of this canyon is a delicious treat made from fragrant yomogi herbs that is harvested from the forests. Some people come here from far away just to get their hands on the homemade yomogi rice cakes, so it’s worth trying these yummy snacks while you’re here too.
